What a tragic and horrible, beautiful and wonderful day we remember today. Take some time to meditate on all that Jesus did for you on this night, so long ago. Why do we make such a big deal out of Easter? It's because of the victory that was won on THIS night. Please don't go through this day like it was just any other day. It wasn't. It isn't.
Take some time today to think through the sacrifice He made for you and for me on that "beautiful, scandalous night. . . "
"On that wonderful, tragic, mysterious tree. . .
On that beautiful, scandalous night you and me were atoned by His blood and forever washed white,
On that beautiful, scandalous night. . . "
Jesus, I can not even imagine the torture and pain you went through on that Cross so that I could be forgiven, free, and alive. We imagine it, study it, portray and remember it on this day and during this season, but I'm sure none of us can even come close to knowing what you felt and experienced. Thank you for enduring the cross, scorning it's shame, for the joy that was set before you--the joy of knowing that you were breaking the hold that sin had on this world and making the way for us to be with God, in spite of all we have done to separate ourselves from Him. Thank you for paying a debt you didn't owe--my own ransom. I love you with all of my heart, and though I can never pay back what I owe you, I will serve you with and for all of my life.
